Hit the Button Maths is an app designed to help develop mental maths and calculation skills. The app is aimed at 5-11 year olds, has 97 different game modes of varying difficulty so it is useful throughout the primary school age range. You play minute-long games where you answer as many questions as possible. Questions are randomly generated which means it is very replayable. The game has been carefully designed for children, with large, widely spaced buttons. We recommend that young children play on an iPad. Six main topics are covered: * Times tables * Division * Square numbers * Number bonds * Doubling * Halving Between these topics, the four standard arithmetic operations are covered: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. You can create up to 15 player profiles per device to track an individual's high scores. If you prefer there's also the option to play as a guest. All data is stored locally on your device so you don't have to worry about privacy issues. We've also made it very easy for children to quickly switch between profiles after playing a game, if they're sharing a device. After each game, the score achieved is displayed along with the child's high score. Bronze, silver or gold stars and trophies are awarded depending on the score achieved in each game.

The speed of this game and the way you choose the answers is fantastic. My children use it to sharpen and test themselves and I use it too for fun :) great game and great learning

I use Topmarks loads in school as they are excellent producers or web based learning games. This app is excellent, and I look forward to them making more if their online games in apps.

An excellent app! I've been searching for an app which would help my son whose 6 years old to prepare for his year 2 Sats and I've found the exact app for that purpose which is simply the best in the market. Worth every penny!

As a tutor, I've been using the online version a lot, but have now bought the app as in some homes I may not be able to get online. I ask my tutees to use this for 5/10 minutes a day to brush up on number bonds and doubling and halving (essential for quick mental maths) and their tables. It's just brilliant. I can sit and watch them during lessons and see weak areas easily. The results speak for themselves. Once they have a grasp of a times table (by using the free, fantastic DK times tables app), they go onto this to improve. We also use adding and subtracting with increasing difficulty. If your child needs help with maths then you will be doing them a huge favour buying this app. As for recording progress (mentioned by another reviewer), they do that by seeing how many they get right in a minute. Their progress is shown to them by beating the score and by knowing a lot more than they did before. Seriously great and I'll use it all the time.
  • Excellent app, does what it says on the tin!

I would have rated it 5 stars if you could have enough player profiles for the whole class!
  • Fairly good

Doesn't show progress over time which is actually the best way to encourage kids to keep trying.
  • Addictive and fun

My kids love hit the button, they couldn't put it down. Love the player profiles feature so they each have their own high scores.
  • Hit the Button is a Hit

Great app which my son aged 8 really enjoyed playing on the iPad and found it very easy to use. He needs to improve his times tables and I think this app has already helped as it's a fun way to learn. He even asked to play! It is well designed with clear menu choices which increase in difficulty. There's six different types of game in all so I think this app will help my son's mental maths generally and be useful for a few more years yet.
