I used the app on my 2500km kayak journey down the Danube. For every post it tags the location, weather and photos taken. See my blog at www.gopaddling.eu

Seldom in life does something free have the ability to change your life. Use the app. Everyday show gratitude and count your blessings. I add an image to keep me motivated. This app allows you to form good habits. EMBRACE THE CHANGE
  • A poor update to Classic

The problem with developers is that they have to change things, dumping oft-used features that they believe to be of little use. Then marketing gets involved and they add subscriptions in order to pay for features to get dumped and before you know it, "Bang!" your once-faithful customers [prompt for Bloom: look up the word "customers" in the dictionary - it may surprise you] have walked away. DropBox dropped. iCloud not implemented. Features such as markups dumped. Subscription to use an untested sync engine instead of tried and tested systems that millions already use, oh and if you don’t subscribe, the features you used to have disappear anyway. Two stars: one for being a sort-of good journal app, and another for still being on the App Store for so long (don’t even get me started on apps and developers who fall by the wayside leaving me with paid up titles no longer able to be downloaded). Maybe I will get used to the new look and feel, but I’m not holding my breath.
  • Escalating costs!

Update- exported all my data and moved it to Dairo which does everything I need for a small one off payment. Goodbye DayOne! I invested in DayOne a year or so ago and bought both the iPhone and Mac apps for a cost of close to £50. I thought it was worth it as a long term investment in my memories and the company had won awards for their apps. So whilst expensive it seemed a worthwhile expense. I was angry when they then decided to bring out DayOne 2 which was a completely new app. I realised that the system I had invested in was no longer going to be developed and so I bought the new iPhone app and transferred my memories to that. I didn't bother with the Mac app as it was far too expensive and I had already paid once and was not paying again after only a few months of use. Now they have done it again - by bringing out a premium subscription I won't benefit from any development. I will not pay any more but will continue to use the version of DayOne I currently have until I find another alternative. However, I would advise against using DayOne as a first time customer as they lock you in and then start finding ways of charging you more!
  • Great upgrade option for Classic users

I've used Classic since 2012 and was v happy with it. But have wanted to upload multiple photos for some time and now have an iPhone X which Classic is not optimised for; I wasn't keen to subscribe so Day One's one time purchase price of £49 for Classic users seemed reasonable to me. My only concern is they're not using iCloud to sync anymore which makes me nervous - what if they go bust or something? I feel more comfortable storing my data with Apple and that's why not 5 stars. That said you can export all entries in a range of formats but you need to manually do this. But the new app is great, nice improvement and looks really good on the X. It managed to import everything from the old app seamlessly and was able to update older entries with multiple photos - the app has a smart feature that finds related photos from your phone's camera roll which is a nice touch. Only minor gripe is it stutters a bit when scrolling (on an iPhone X so should be buttery smooth) and it crashed a couple of times when I was uploading multiple pictures to previous entries (a known issue which they are working on) and I was unable to submit a support request but that could have been due to the holidays, but otherwise all works fine. One minor improvement request - can you move the text up automatically when it reaches below the keyboard? Otherwise means you have to keep flicking up to see what you're typing.

Would be better if could re order entries without changing times of photos.
  • Moleskine Wins in the End

Used this app for a year and now the new subscription approach has me baffled when you can Wordpress privately for free. Most importantly, using this app made me realise how much I missed journaling by hand; writing with fountain pen, designing pages, lettering and having a finite amount of space on a page to capture things in a meaningful and succinct way. Writing in a page a day Moleskine diary connects better with the creative process and doesn’t cost anything like the Day One subscription. And with a Moleskine I end up with my own completed book at the end of the year without having to pay more money for it to be printed. Day One may suit lots of people but I’ve returned to Moleskine and copied out my Day One entries by hand for a much more enjoyable, creative and cost effective journal experience.

The upgrade on 23 /12 /17 has broken my journal. The fonts are all over the place. I cannot read what I’m typing. Please fix it!

Just downloaded the latest update and this has made the App so much better. It is soooo much quicker, Tags come up immediately and the new photo storage optimisation is great.
