If you have an iPad or an iPhone you can use TouchOSC create your very own simple or complex MIDI, CC & OSC controls customised to do what you need them to do. Control your DAW, your softsynths, trigger notes or Program Change data, write automation all from your iPad (via Wifi or USB). I'm using TouchOSC to control all the above via a series of templates written to perfomr the tasks that fit my workflow. The app is regularly updated with new features, plus there's great tech support and a user forum. Definitely reccommended.

Well it's taken me a long time to get working and I'm sure simple issues to point out that iTunes must be installed on your hosting PC would have helped, however it's doing what it needs to and I've jumped in and started making my own interfaces for touch Osceola, which is great in my Ableton Live set up over USB, there are some glitches in the synchronicity of the device when both Wifi and USB are being used at the same time, both interfering with the output (obvious once seen) but also sending presets, I could go on ironing out issues for new users but like a lot of these things you just have to take a leap of faith and dive in, as once understood it's not that difficult to set up. Now I'm up and running I am interested to take things further with Lemur or Konkreet performer, but Touch OSC looks to be a good default place to be.

Great app for creating custom layouts to suit your needs. Easy to configure. Could be improved by allowing host ip and in/out ports to be saved along with a layout for multi purpose use.
  • Apple ruined it

This was working fine for me and influenced me buying an iPad. Apple have messed up with wifi now can't make secure ad hoc connection anymore
  • Very frustrating and unusable

I've never used this app due to not having any success at setting it up. There is no clear guidance on the developer's website. As a customer I expect to be given full instructions on how to use a product I've paid for. How is it that I am a very competent IT user and can't get this work? Terribly frustrating. I wouldn't recommend this app to anyone till the company doesn't clarify how this app should be connected to a DAW.

This is a fantastic app. It's easy to use and very stable. I trust it on live gigs I have wasted plenty of time with other OSC apps and just ended up frustrated. One feature that makes me keep looking is that the OSC messages can't be changed on the mobile device. I wouldn't want to change the layout just the message sent. Believe it or not when on a gig (like a festival) to get access to a actual computers with a windows or Mac environment can sometimes be a task. We try to avoid taking laptops on site because they often go missing. As pro kit has to be reliable, computer driven kit often doesn't have standard Windows or Mac front end.

After a bit of tinkering, this works well. The available controls are a bit basic - it would be good to have some different shapes for buttons, and being able to edit common properties of multiple selected shapes would save a lot of time when creating a page. I can't get the TouchOSC Bridge to do anything on my MacBook Pro, but fortunately the CoreAudio interface works, even though you have to connect every time you want to use it. Not a fault of this app though. I'm using this for controlling Hauptwerk and it does the job well. In summary, it's still a bit raw in places, but has great potential. Worth paying for.
