Description

Been saving up for that Hang, but don't have quite enough yet? You can get busy on our version of the infamous steel instrument. Start it up, bang away, even record your own loop to play along with. So authentic, your friends will think yours has already arrived. Fill them in on the secret, and they too can download and record their own creations. Do I hear a "Hang out"??? Features include: * Audiobus 2 support including state saving * 45 tunings including microtonal tunings * Sounds sampled from actual instrument * Loop recording and playback Little bit of information about the Hang ... The Hang is a steel percussion instrument that is typically played using the hands and fingers while it rests in the musician's lap. It was developed in Switzerland in 2000 by Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer. There are currently 5 generation models. Ours is a first generation Hang that defaults to the Aeolian tuning with a D3 central note and a A3 C4 D4 E4 F4 G4 A4 tone loop. The eight notes are arranged in a 'Tone Circle' that zig-zag from low to high and are harmonically tuned around the low 'Ding' note in the center. Select from 45 tunings including microtonal tunings. These various tunings can be mixed into loops that are being constructed. Many thanks and kudos to Felix Rohner and Sabina Schärer for creating such a unique, elegant, and fun instrument. For more information about the origin of the Hang, to hear some sound samples, or just to see someone kickin' it, visit one of the following: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hang_(instrument) http://www.hangdrum.info The loop recording in all of the OddTunes apps is roughly modelled after the Gibson / Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro. While there are only a few buttons, there is much more functionality there than meets the eye. For more information on the operation of the looper, please visit our Web site at the following address: http://www.avacata.com/iphone/oddtunes/hang/ OddTunes:Hang is one of the many fine instruments coming your way from the Avacata iPhone development team. Stay tuned for new upcoming OddTunes releases and additions to the loop recording capabilities. From one musician to another ... it's Hang time. Ding, Ding, Ding. ======================== Coming soon: - Save your loops. Share your loops. Amaze your friends. - New tuning packs (we've kept track of all of your requests and have a few of our own) - MIDI support (in and out) ======================== Also, check out Avacata's game: Bishook. What a lovely, quirky app! You have a wide choice of different scales to chose from, all from different parts of the world. The sound of the hang drum itself is nice and quite therapeutic, as well as the app being easy to use (it's very self explanatory). You can also record something and play it back, however I haven't yet found a way - if there is one - to save these recordings anywhere. Also the playback doesn't continue when your device is locked :( Apart from the 'issues' I just mentioned, an improvement I would love to see is for the app to be pressure sensitive - tapping lightly making a quiet sound and pressing hard making a louder sound. Although having said this, the app is free (or is it? I can't remember, I got it so long ago!) so I shouldn't really complain. Another thing that would be awesome to see is being able to customise your own scales and then saving them to use again in the future. Overall this is a great app and I would've given it 4.5 stars but that's not an option! I've tried a lot of hang drum apps and this is one of the best ones you can get without spending more money on another app (or a real hang drum!). It's definitely worth the download :)

I had deleted Odd:Hang a long time ago, mainly due to latency issues. This latest update seems to have cured that, and along with Audiobus has made this a much useable app. Well done for that - definitely worth 4 stars. My extra star is in anticipation of the "loop management" system promised for the future.

Major latency issue. Not useable. I could have wasted a dollar on some sweets instead!!!
  • Latency and playability issues

I thought this might be a nice instrument to play, but as has already been mentioned there are latency issues which make it unplayable in any meaningful sense. I also expected more in terms of sound variation, this is simply an single sound trigger, a bit like a drum pad but not as good. OK, I wasn't expecting full timbral response, but a little variation e.g. dampened notes when the same zone is pressed and tapped at the same time, would have been nice. Here's hoping for improvements in future versions, to which I hope my 50p contributes :-)
  • Nice, but not recordable

This is a nice app. I love the 'hang' and thought that this would be a nice addition to percussion when recording my guitar. However, there is a latency issue which means you cannot play and record loops in time. Also, loops cannot be played from any position. You cannot transpose loops. Nor can you save them. I do think I am asking more of it than it was designed for. I just wanted anyone thinking they can record with it to realize that you can't.

Brilliant, fun & creative. Extremely well designed with wonderful realistic Hang sounds & a dazzling selection of exotic & fascinating tunings that actual Hang players can only dream of. Excellent for noodling & relaxation as well as composition. Inspired. JC / England
