  • Oh dear!!

    By Burntbum
If you read reviews by users of early versions you will find discontent. I am with them! Like another I still have access to my original purchase on my old iPhone containing all the charts including those mot on this version o f the Atlantic Islands. I am not happy at having to download bit by bit. Particularly as I do not always have good internet access. I live and travel aboard my boat and find electronic navigation very useful though a maintain paper charts as well. Now, with the latest update I seam to have had all the "bits" I've downloaded disappear so must start again. Potentially dangerous had I not noticed before a voyage. And i can't find the download area. Not nearly as user friendly as it used to be. Come on Navionics!! So far I have only used on an iPhone and as a small screen not used to full potential. But now the proud owner of an iPad I will be researching the market before continuing with Navionics. Mr Angry of wherever I happen to be!!!! PS. I've just found the download! So reinstated my chart of Faro. Any who have ventured into Bruce's yard will know about the channel in!! I would have used my plot on to help me out again but with the last update I've lost it!!!!
  • Stay away from this update if you use route/waypoint sync!

    By Carduus
With the version 7 update, Navionics have, without warning, removed the ability to sync waypoints and routes with Raymarine MFDs. This is not mentioned in the update notes and is catching out a lot of people who can't revert back to the previous version. I urge all users of this feature to pressure Navionics into reintroducing this feature.
  • Great App - Europe (not UK)

    By Fire_Brand
Great app! Please note that the name is misleading. The Europe version doesn't contain the UK, even though the UK is in Europe.
  • No Course-up mode on iPod Touch

    By Valenman
Although basically very good, the app is let down for me by the fact that 'Course-up' mode does not work on the iPod Touch (using an external GPS since the iPod Touch does not have built-in GPS). Since Course-up mode DOES work on the wi-FI only iPad when using the same external GPS it would surely not be difficult for Navionics to fix it for the iPod - it really is important for marine navigation.
  • Wow! Nearly didn

I read all the reviews of previous versions and nearly didn't buy this. I guessed that I'd punt 17 quid at it and see what happened. I'm going motor boating on Lake Garda, Italy tomorrow and couldn't find ANY charts anywhere (probably could've bought paper ones but who plans that far ahead?) This app worked quickly, efficiently and without any fuss. I very quickly had a usable chart of the lake! Absolutely invaluable to me - Can't talk about other areas but I'm already very happy with my purchase!
  • Not quite as advertised...

    By bnlakeside
The App advertisement does not show exactly what is (not) covered. This product is not all of western Europe. It is is Europe 5-15nm offshore only - minus UK, Channel Islands, English Channel and Ireland. So not much use to UK sailors or those visiting. The charts download slowly from the Net as you zoom in to an area so you have to be connected. This App is misleadingly described and is not a great improvement on its predecessor - Marine Europe West which downloaded in one go.
  • Finally a proper Nav App!

    By Charles of Godalming
With the new in app purchase the potential for the future can be seen. You can now see bearing, distance etc on the screen so it is no longer a crippled version restricted to planning. That strategy did not work anyways as users were still using it for navigation. How about the same treatment for the iPad? Can't hold back the tide for long ese someone else will do it!

So I purchased this application having already purchased the earlier ones. Just like the other correspondents I was disappointed with the reuslts and only able to download areas that I didn't want. The south Coast of England was not available and like others on this page I was unable to download the parts of the country I wanted. I wrote to Navionics to complain and received (after 4 days) a computer generated response asking me for the information I had already supplied. i have asked for a refund as the application is of no use to me. So far nothing......
  • Great all round

This is a fantastic app. I love that you only download what you need saves on critical memory space! I used this mainly in halkidiki in Greece where there are no detailed paper charts. Having used it all summer and recommended to many who also loved it. I shall be using this summer in turkey. However this is not used as a replacement when detailed charts are available!!!
  • Navionics goes backwards - what a mistake!

    By A. Moor
Compared with the original App this is not good! The reason: with the first version the chart was complete in the App. On this one the chart has to to be downloaded bit by bit - this is messy and of no practical use unless you have continual access to the Internet. However by the very nature of cruising, sailors have frequent limited Internet access. Fortunately I have both the original and the new version of Western Europe but I only use the new one for Tides or weather. No, Navionics, you've made a serious retrogressive policy step from what was a great series of Apps. I was going to give it 1 star for the inclusion of weather but seemingly that facility has now been deleted. However unless I give it a star I cannot post this review! Well it is not deserved.
