UPDATED JAN 2018. Still brilliant and tech support is great. I use Cloak on two phones and iPad and my Mac. It doesn't matter where I am or how I connect? Cloak automatically secures the wireless connection making it a lot safer for online transactions on hotel and cafe networks. Very occasionally the odd problem logging on to a network that requires separate login screen, but generally Cloak just works seamlessly.

I know it works mostly. There are issues, ironically, with public wifi. But that may be an its thing. But the developers know their stuff, support is solid, trustworthy (important for a VPN) and the price is reasonable.

App is getting worse Speed ok Connection time poor . Some times never connects Sometimes shows connected but no data or website allowed . Your app has to be removed and reinstalled . So the issue is temp fixed Express vpn works better and quicker Se what there doing right and replicate it on your app . At the moment I will not be renewing my account until I'm sure these issue are fixed . Have you changed servers ? Do you use virtual servers .? Are you systems overloaded ? It's got to be something so please figure it out and contact me when it's fixed thanks App is worse does not connect Have to put phone in and out of airplane mode to get vpn to connect USELESS APP
  • No good since it became Encrypt.me

Since the app became Encrypt.me its buggy, keeps crashing and requires logging in repeatedly, and often can’t connect. I can’t recommend it because it’s unreliable and I often have to give up and add a network as ‘trusted’ without the protection of VPN. It used to be good and work well but no more.
  • Barely useable, crashes all the time

Since the last update the app is very difficult to use since it crashes most of the time. What’s also worrying is that the devs must be seeing lots of crash logs but there’s no sign of any update to fix. So devs are either ignorant to crashes or aren’t but can’t fix, or aren’t but don’t care. Yikes. It’s a real shame since the app and service generally worked great. It’s also a paid for service so there’s little excuse for the poor user experience.
  • Problems since v4 update

Edit: Unfortunately this previously excellent app has gone badly downhill since the merger and rebrand and the introduction of v4. The previously excellent auto connect feature rarely works on 3rd party wifi, usually getting stuck on ‘connecting’, and trying to disconnect gets it stuck in a similar state (but with a ‘disconnect’ message) that persists even after the ios wifi is shut off entirely. Reinstalling will often fix the issue, although the fix wont last. IOS 11.1 seems to have improved auto connect a bit, but whether that will last is another matter. There seem to be a number of other reviews here with exactly the same issues. Even when it does connect, either auto or manual, throughput is diabolical, with downstream barely 5 percent of the wifi speed without VPN, although upstream seems generally fine if shaky. In short, its currently not at all fit for purpose until this is properly fixed, so I hope the fix is quick or I’ll be cancelling my subscription and looking for a new provider. ————— Original review 2016 Cloak does an excellent job of reliably automating VPN on untrusted networks, removing the need to remember to turn it on. Speeds have always good at consistently around 10 percent or so less than the uncloaked connection. The only issue I've had (reduced in frequency over time) is Cloak occasionally cutting in on my home network, leading to a moments confusion when accessing my NAS or Mac. Bringing it to the foreground ends the problem quickly. Not a flaw, but it's also worth bearing in mind when setting up a new IoT device with wifi, which often requires connecting to the devices ad hoc wifi during configuration. Cloak tries to establish a VPN on this new network, shutting you out from accessing the device - I banged my head in frustration for an hour setting up a Dyson fan before noticing (finally!!!) the VPN symbol at top left. Overall well implemented and worth the price.
