Back when Duolingo was smaller, it was loads of fun, I remember when I could just learn what I wanted - where I wanted - with no hassle. However, after many updates and changes, it turned into yet another scamming game, just out to get your money. Duolingo gained a heart system (unlike before) where you would either have to wait for it to refill, or pay for gems with real money. Oh no, it doesn’t stop there. They also shoved ads into the game, obscuring every corner of it: after levels, menus, etc. And being someone who has only recently started learning a language, not only on Duolingo - but in real life too, I have figured that what the app is teaching you is not actually all true. For example: French. Many people learn French, whether it being for school, family, or just fun. However, what I have noticed is that the app does not teach you of the past, present, and future tenses; in fact, they just kind of jumble up past and present verbs and say it’s correct, but if you said to someone in French, for example, “Nous avons joue” - you are not saying “We are playing” but “We were play” which doesn’t make any sense at all so I don’t know why Duolingo insists to teach you lies while also demanding money for an ad-less lesson and more lives to prevent having to wait five more days for a full bar. All in all, yes - Duolingo has changed - and yes - now you have to pay to learn a language falsely - in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they soon said that you would have to pay for the game too, to then have it plagued by ads and demands to pay for a subscription, which just empties out your wallet a little more just to learn a false language again and again. Well done Duolingo, you got ads, you got subscriptions, and you keep getting more money.
  • Bug in speaking part

By Wt sld i fill in?
Since last time updated the speaking part is messed up. First few times I thought it was my mistake. But then I even ask my french frd to pronounce for me the speaking part still saying it’s mistake and I need to try again. Updating the new version is totally a mistake. If this isnt fixing ima just gonna delete and find another app, sad

  • Inaccurate and inconsistent

The life system might be fair enough (although I object to the grasping way one can add health), but not when the voice recognition fails me on almost every task where I have to read the words (funnily it didn’t seem to do that on the paid version), and when it insists on a specific word being used in translations, often without introducing the new word. I’ve lost lives and crashed out of a lesson for writing “father” rather than “dad” or the wrong word for hat despite every bit of the lesson up to that point using “sombrero”. Going to give up as its putting me off

Keeping up my French Italian and Spanish and learning German Swedish with Duolingo. I never miss a days oractice because it is so enjoyable and effective. I joined an Italian club but had abusive messages so left the club. However I also joined one of the Swedish clubs and there has been nothing to object to there. I am about to start listening to the podcasts as I feel ready for a new challenge. I cannot speak highly enough of the fantastic service Duolingo offers.

How much did they pay to get ‘editor’s choice’? Oh yeah, they took my money to pay for that and gave me a terrible service in return. I won’t go into the extremely long list of how bad this service is. However, it just gets worse and worse and worse and worse........ Now the recordings are not working. It started with the odd one and slowly more and more recordings are disappearing. Duolingo, I can no longer complete a level at all so what is the point of using your terrible service. You expect people to pay you money but then offer ZERO customer service. Instead you leave people to scratch their heads in forums. When this started a few years ago this looked like a great new way to learn a language. But now, you have become greedy, arrogant and offering, frankly, an appalling service. This is not what it used to be. GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!!!
