  • Few features and too many IAP

    By Paul W Mather
Before you say it, I don’t need to read what app development is, I’m fully aware. However, perhaps I should educate you on what good business practice is? It isn’t clear from the app description that this app does next to nothing without buying IAP’s. Virtually everything I try to do, I am informed that an IAP is necessary. I cannot even add a basic widget without being asked for further payment. It would make much more sense for the version I paid for to be free and then a premium bundle for £4.99. For £4.99, I’ve got next to nothing. I can basically change the colour of my bulbs, which I can do in the Philips app and set timers. Overall, I’m unimpressed and underwhelmed by the way in which this very odd pricing model has been put together. I’m also surprised that more people haven’t come forward with similar feelings. The app developer has convinced himself that the pricing model is fair, because he’s worked hard on the app. But so has every other app developer and I’ve never seen such a misleading pricing in the 10 years of using the App Store. At the very least make it crystal clear in the description what people will receive for their £4.99 and what comes as an additional cost. If you read your own description, you talk about many of the features as though they’re included, such as widgets. You should clearly define the features included, don’t even mention ANYTHING that requires IAP until you’ve specified; *Available as an IAP* and then talk about widgets etc. It’s misleading and I’m fairly sure you know it. If you don’t, then re-read your description and edit. It’s rare that I’d take the time to write a review, but this really did touch a nerve with me.
  • Hands down best app I’ve ever had

    By Will Byatt
The base app cost £5, which in itself enables a dimmer switch to control lots of groups easily (with the Philips Hue app can only control one group). I have one dimmer which now controls 4 separate groups of lights, one per button, cycling through scenes with each press and the group switches off when you hold the button (don’t think even hold option in Hue app?). Also have groups within groups which I don’t think the Hue app gives. Widget is also great, love the editor. Not played with additional content much but even if you spent £20 in total, that’s only the cost of one more dimmer switch, which the app has saved you by making your existing ones four times as good! Well done developers! Only suggestion would be to automatically put some scenes in when you create a group like the standard Concentrate, Dimmed, etc that the Philips app gives. Perhaps a few coloured ones to to spice it up a bit. Can always delete them if you don’t want them, but could save a bit of time creating them for each group (I created same ones for each group so felt like there should be a way of copying a compatible scene somehow - perhaps there is already?)
  • Waaaaayyyyy too expensive

    By Jayenne
The basic app has very little real benefit over those of the free app by Philips. ...then the rest seams to be just trail/demo for in app purchases...all of which are too expensive for what you get. There are far too many of them of the same ilk (scenes or animations etc) and there is no single ‘buy all’ price. Lastly, in app purchases are not free under “friends and family” - every member must to pay for each in app purchase individually if they want the same control. This app needs to be Lite £1.99 / Pro £7.99 Regrettably, applying for refund today based on feeling misled over Friends & Family sharing and the additional costs for features I had thought I’d paid for initially.
  • Great app

Very good all useful thing are add-on’s.So gets expensive ,app very good but expensive. I would prefer to pay more in the first place for the main things 79p to be able to use timer !
  • Great but too expensive

    By Stupid Microsoft
First of all, it is as good as the other reviewers say. Really opens up the possibilities and it let me do what I wanted with the motion sensor which the official Hue app doesn’t allow. But, it does have to be said the app is expensive. The £4.99 original price is fantastic value but you then have to pay for so much more. Want a household member to be acknowledged so the lights stay on when they’re home but you leave? That’s another £4.99 for them. Want the great animations? That’s £1.99 - per group (see update below)! Magic scenes? Widget editor? Animation editor? Apple Watch control? All cost extra, and the price of adding another bridge is a further £3.99 - which in itself would be a pricey app. I do understand that an app like this requires a ton of developer input, but equally there must be a balance. A cheaper or free app with in-app purchases or a higher original price with all features would be more palatable. Right now it’s a high entry price with relatively expensive in-app purchases, which are needed to get the great features that make the app worth having over its competitors. Update following developer response: I should have clarified that I meant group of animations, not light groups. Regarding other users, I don’t believe that Apple Family Sharing should be a requirement. Few users will set that up just so their lights stay on when their spouse is still home. And finally with regards to pricing, there are various ways to handle it - Tweetbot charges for every major update, other apps have a higher entry price or a lower entry price with in-app purchases. This app has a premium download price to begin with and then charges even more for the features you downloaded it for in the first place. Of course we want a good widget etc, the whole point of buying the app is to have something better than the official Hue app. It’s a kick in the teeth to buy an app only to discover the useful stuff requires more money, just be honest upfront and charge £8 or £10 for the download.
  • By far the most advanced way to use Hue

    By Syncopix
This app is by far the best way to get the most out of your Hue lights. Having used it for well over a year now I can honestly say it is my favourite app for automating my lights. It opens up the possibilities for the switches by allowing users to alter what the buttons do depending on various preconditions such as other lights being on or off, time of day, people being in the house or not etc. This granular level of control is very very good!
  • Best Hue App

    By TomEdwards
This is by far the best Hue app for iPhone. There just isn’t anything like it - just buy it!
  • It’s like the official app on Steriods

    By grooveriw
This app goes far beyond what you can do with the standard Philips app. Can be a bit of a learning curve getting used to what this app can do but it’s worth it. I don’t even use the official app anymore, this is simply the best Hue app there is. If you want your Hue lights to do something, anything, then this app makes it possible.
  • Just keeps getting better

    By KD-N1976
With every update new features and improvements are made to this already great app. I strongly recommend purchasing a generous selection of the in-app additions, which are well worth the small fee, and help to fund the future development of features and fixes.
  • A great idea but...

    By richard57
I find it to be quite inconsistent. I mainly use this app to provide the motion sensor features missed by the Philips Hue app. Lights will often remain on even when there's no motion in the room. When there is motion you'll frequently find that several lights within a group won't react at all or will turn on but with the wrong colour temperature. As a result I have not bothered purchasing any of the extras - I fear they will suffer from the same inconsistencies. Would be an awesome app if it worked.
