The app is commonly used in preschool, primary school, kindergarten and first grade as an interactive teaching resource. Features: ● Complements Phases 2-5 of UK Government-approved Letters and Sounds and other major systematic synthetic phonics programmes. ● Absolutely no in-app purchases, hidden costs or in-game adverts. Perfect for kids! ● Suitable for ages 3-6. ● Designed in collaboration with reading experts from Roehampton University. ● Available on iPad and iPhone. Reviews of the online game: "This game is the absolute best quality phonics game I have come across for educational and fun value." Marie Lewis, Rochdale “My class have reaped loads of benefits from using the programme and the difference in some of their reading skills has been dramatic." Maria Andrews, Foundation Phase Teacher "This is a fabulous game. I'm not kidding when I say that my daughter essentially learned all her letter sounds using First steps, with relatively minimal input from me! Great for parents to practise their letter sounds too." Was looking for a good app to help my boy 7 that has Dyslexia to practice the sounds and letters. I read the reviews of this app and though it will help but the games are poor and repetitive. Some games are not explained properly and we don’t get how they work. Equal frustration that I am trying to avoid with my son that is reluctant to read. I was expecting more from the price. I’d like to be refunded really.

My 4 year old daughter loves this app, she plays it daily. Makes reading fun, the games are great for her, it’s good that we have found something that she wants to play while learning too! Best app for young kids :)

What a brilliant App.. reading is hard and can sometimes be boring but this app is amazing and it teaches all the important part of Phonics - “Hear it, say it” is so important and this game captures it perfectly. My son is 4 ( August baby) and in reception and is learning to read so naturally I tried every way I know ( I’m a TA) to encourage his reading but he was more than happy for me to read it for him and then this app showed up somewhere and I downloaded it. This app and lots of practice with other methods has brought his reading, writing and spellings on so much, I can’t recommend it enough. Not only can he read better but he’s so much more confident now. He spends about 16 minutes every other day playing on the app, it’s a fun way for him to rest, relax and learn! Also as a school and someone who works intensively with SEND through out key stage 1 and 2 this app is huge hit! You’ll find it helps with everything from Fine motor, reading, concentrating to blending and sounding out and spelling/phonics. If any children are having trouble with any part of the app please sit and spend a few minutes going out the sounds, words or phrases.. it’s a very independent app but could be used as part of some quality time together learning and relaxing. Well done to the creators, you have made a brilliant educational app. Huge fan and I know all the children I work with are to.

Our 4yo boy who just started school learnt so much through playing with the monster! He's not even aware he's learning! His older brother (7) created own monster and loves playing it too. Although he knows all the sounds, it's just fun for him. Brilliant app. Thanks!
  • Great app for a child learning to read.

  • Great potential

Great potential but needs work! In the spaceship game, the blocks need the letter on them. Also the flower game is much too difficult for young kids. How about if the character stops automatically by every flower, and the player has to choose between two or three letters? So far, the only game that works for my kid is the duck game and she's getting tired of it. Please fix the other games. Thank you!
  • Really good app!

It’s a brilliant little app, my 4 year old is thrilled with it - however, we’ve noticed with the flower game, he’s been told to find the ‘g’ sounds, well every time he does go down the route of ‘g’ it tells him he’s wrong. I’ve tried it also on a new account, and I’m also wrong. 4/5 for that one minor problem, but it’s wonderful! He’s enjoying building his rocket for his monster!
  • Absolutely worth it!!!

I can't remember how I first heard of teach your monster to read but I've had it on desk top and was so happy when the app arrived because now I can take it everywhere. My 10 and 8 years old and my 4 years old have been using it and it has helped with their spelling and reading too. Honestly it's a brilliant investment.
  • Excellent reading system which really works

Thank you to usbourne who made our non reading boy into someone who was totally hooked on the games and then was able to read. It really built his confidence. My second son now six wanted to try so rather than use the computer I downloaded the app and have found the same success. Thank you Usbourne!
